TF2 Update: New Pyro Achievements, Weapons, New Maps, Meet the Sniper and Free Weekend!

admin - Friday, June 20, 2008

Just as the dust has settled on the recent content update which was centred around the Medic class and Goldrush addition, Steam have come out of the woodwork and have released their latest TF2 update which will see a plethora of content added to one of the hottest games right now.

Pyro Achievments

Steam has given the royal treatment to the Pyro class with a list of 35 achievements to unlock. Achievements range from destroying 50 Engineer buildings (Arsonist) to igniting an enemy Spy when he's lighting up a durry.  As you churn through the achievements, gradually the new Pyro weapons (more about this below) will be unlocked at your disposal. Check out the full listing of the Pyro Achievements here.

Pyro Weapons

There are three new weapons to be unlocked via achievement completion.

1. Flare Gun

The third Pyro unlockable is The Axtinguisher. This mighty axe guarantees critical hits on any enemy that’s currently on fire, although it’s significantly weaker against enemies who aren’t. A great combination with the The Flare Gun, or with another Pyro buddy riding alongside doing the igniting.

In addition to this, the standard Pyro Flamethrower will also receive a bit of a boost, with the alt-fire option to provide a gust of compressed air to not only seperate the enemies from the pack (think Uber charged medics on heavies) but will be able to deflect rockets and grenades.

Community Map Pack

After Steam released the production tools for TF2, there has been an influx of high quality maps floating around the net. The Steam staff found it hard to just choose two, however their decision has been made to include CP_FASTLANE a control point map in the Badlands settings and CTF_TURBINE – a capture the flag style set in an industrial surrounding.

Meet the Sniper

Is he British? A deranged Aussie? While this movie fails to debunk this once and for all, nonetheless this "Meet the" is a hilarious affair. Grab the Meet the Sniper video from 3FL's Download Vault

Play TF2 for free this weekend!

Still not convinced about TF2? Steam have launched yet another free weekend for would-be TF2 players. The FREE TF2 weekend will be kicking off early on Saturday around 0300AM WST. If you haven't already got the Steam client, simply grab it now and you too can start pre-loading TF2 pronto!

3FL Launches Player Stats for CS:S and TF2

admin - Wednesday, June 18, 2008

3FL is proud to finally announce the launch of player stats for Counter-strike: Source and Team Fortress 2. Player stats allow you to track not only your personal score and playing style, but you'll be effectively ranked against each player who has connected to any of 3FL's CS:S or TF2 servers.

Statistics such as how many times you've defused the bomb, how many times you've killed a hostage, headshot count and what your favourite weapons are kept all on record. The stats system is searchable, so feel free to check out that spy who dominated you just moments ago in TF2.

To access the Player Stats Page, mouse over the "Servers" tab on the top navigation bar.

Player stats are recorded through HLstatsX, to find out more information on how the stats system works please refer to our help section.

Naked Gun meets GTAIV

admin - Tuesday, June 10, 2008

In what I'm sure will be the first in many re-enactments, GamesRadar have outdone themselves by re-doing the intro for Naked Gun with GTAIV.

In the below embedded video, their take in GTAIV, if you have never seen or can't seem to remember back that far – check out the original Naked Gun intro here.

Another Star Wars character for Soulcalibur IV

admin - Friday, June 6, 2008

If Yoda and Vader weren't already enough for a cross universe and franchise accomplishment, an announcement from Namco Bandai has confirmed that Starkiller – the center character for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be joining in on this light sabre orgy (ouch, did I just write that?) for Soulcalibur IV.

Starkiller reprises the role of Darth Vader's first apprentice Sith. For those of your who aren't entirely clued up on all that is Star Wars, Star Wars : The Force Unleashed reportedly takes part between Episode III's Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV's A New Hope.

Soulcalibur IV is set to sizzle on Australian Xbox 360's and PS3's – July 29.

To get an idea of how Vader and Yoda will fit into Soulcalibur IV, below is a gameplay video featuring the two characters in the upcoming PS3 version.

Thoughts? It looks like a lot of fun, but I'm sure trying to balance the 'force' wasn't a fun job for the developer Namco Bandai, let's just hope that these liberated Star War action figures aren't the overpowered button mashing choice of your annoying drunk friends (aka Law, Eddie/Tiger from Tekken.)

GTA IV’s DLC delayed!

admin - Friday, June 6, 2008

Shack News has reported that the first instalment of downloadable content (DLC) for the award hauling GTAIV will be delayed until next year. In an announcement from Take Two Interactive, it has been reported that the DLC be pushed back until first quarter of the fiscal year for 2009 – which will be some where between November 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009.

There is still no word out on the street as to what the episodic content will actually feature, however message boards are hot on part speculation and part wish list. The delay has been apparently implemented "in order to provide a better balance in Take-Two's release schedule."

In the mean time, GTAIV stunt videos have been coming out almost daily with some impressive results. Check out one of my favourites below.

Duke Nukem Forever – Gameplay Footage (not April fools)

admin - Friday, June 6, 2008

This scenario has been made all too familiar. The game which 'commenced' development in April 1997, every one's favourite vapourware – has released yet more in-game footage. Yes that's right, flick back to 2001 when legendary developers 3D Realms released this bad boy trailer for E3. Duke Nukem Forever appears alive and well in a short clip from the Jace Hall Show. Shack News have the apparent footage here

It seems quite a large step ahead from what the public were shown back in December 2007 with this 'teaser footage'. 3D Realms have dared not provided a release date yet, so you can safely expect it – when it's done™ .

Thoughts? It seems unmistakeably like Doom 3, which many will argue is a good and a bad thing. Let's just hope that a game which has taken +10 years to finish, doesn't take the form (in terms of technology) of a title released in 2004.
