Flash Game Friday: Must Pop Words

stuck_fox - Friday, August 28, 2009

Looking for something to do on an otherwise boring Friday whilst waiting for the weekend to finally arrive? Well maybe our section Flash Game Friday has something for you.

In Must Pop Words, you simply must pop words. Keep your hands on the keyboard and eyes on the screen while you form words from the little orange bubbles raining from above. This game is like bubblewrap for bogglists and scrabbophiles – it’s just as addictive.

Go pop some words.

The Wii is still printing money, no price-cut this year…

admin - Thursday, August 27, 2009

The truth is, if you want to talk specs or even quality titles then the Wii just doesn’t have a chance with the way it’s been performing in 2009. Now with the 360 and PS3 investing into motion controls, what argument does Nintendo have to justify the price?

I understand that you are still riding your success Nintendo, but if something as simple as the Blu-Ray launch of FFVII: Advent Children Complete can drop you from the top of Japan’s charts for over 3 weeks, how do you believe you will be able to stay at the top of the charts as the generation progresses?

As E3 and GamesCom have passed without even as much of a rumour, don’t be expecing a price-cut on the Wii anytime soon. It’s good to see Wii focusing on all their gamer demographics once again, but your’e not fooling anyone Nintendo, throw us a freakin’ bone and cut the price already!

Rare talk Shooters and Project Natal

admin - Thursday, August 27, 2009

The prospects of Natal are promising and the potential of bringing a new experience to the market is exciting. Can the shooting be re-done without the use of a control pad what so ever? Well as George said, We’ll have to see what they can do.

Natal is currently expected to be released in 2010.

Bots .. In my loading screen?

wob - Wednesday, August 26, 2009

It’s more likely than you think.

Mad props to the one like Burnies in the forums for this find.  He’s posted a link to this article over at ubercharged.net that explains how to load a map and bots behind your TF2 menu screen.  Completely useless but it looks awesome.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I guarantee I will be tonight.

FFXIII: 360 Version expected to ship on 3 Discs

admin - Wednesday, August 26, 2009

"Since the hardware is different, there might be some subtle differences if you compare     screenshots side by side, but the team’s being very careful about the compression of the data and the visuals, so that it’s exactly the same on both."

Final Fantasy XIII is set to release in Japan at the end of the year and to be localized across the rest of the world in Q2 of 2010.

One thing worth noting, it that previous Final Fantasy titles generally get localized in Australia a few months after the US and Europe. luckily for all PS3 owners, if this is the case, do not forget your PS3 is region free and you have the ability import and play titles from any region.

Xbox 360 price-cut confirmed in the US?

admin - Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Gamers in the US should expect the new price to take effect on Sunday 30th August. There have been no confirmations yet whether Australia will be receiving a price-cut also; however if history is to repeat itself then I would expect to see a $50 AUD cut on the current prices. Bringing the Xbox 360 Pro down to $349 AUD and the Elite to $499 AUD, moving both systems into direct competition with Sony.

This is all idle speculation at this point, but considering Microsoft are just doing a price cut and not releasing a new model, I think we can safely expect the change to come into effect in Australia around the same time.

Mass Effect 2: Simultaneous release for both 360 and PC!

admin - Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Despite the fact that the 360 likes to share a majority of their exclusive titles with the PC, this announcement will definitely be well received as you generally find that PC gamers tend to steer away from the 360 due to a majority of content being shared across both platforms, so it means that both gamer demographics will have access on day one.

I think alot of people avoided looking into Mass Effect 2 too much at first due to the over-hype the first installment received; However I think it’s time everyone put on there hype helmets as this is definitely going to be a game you won’t want to miss on either the 360 or PC!

Mass Effect 2 is expected to ship Q1 2010

Diablo III: Console port currently in talks with first parties

admin - Tuesday, August 25, 2009

According to Paul Sam’s of Blizzard "They haven’t ruled out Diablo III for consoles — and are currently talking to the first parties." Though this doesn’t necessarily mean anything as Blizzard’s president Mike Morhaime told fans in last October that a console version of Diablo III was definitely on the table.

He continued, "As Diablo III takes shape, I think we’ll do an evaluation. I think there is a pretty good argument to be made that that type of game might work very well on consoles. There might be some technical limitations though that we might need to get past."

It would appear that Blizzard are legitimately putting some serious consideration into bringing Diablo III to consoles. So this now leaves the big question, does the title have a place on both the PC and consoles? Many would argue either way; however we can only speculate what Blizzard will decide, as we wait for more updates on the potential console port.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Frozen Hell - Monday, August 24, 2009

Blizzcon was held on the weekend and the rumours that were doing the rounds have proved to be correct, with Blizzard announcing the third expansion pack for their money printing machine game – World of Warcraft – will be titled Cataclysm.  So the name that was trademarked back in July has a confirmed game attached to it now.

Cataclysm will see players returning to the original two continents of Azeroth – Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, with both being transformed through the evil doings of Deathwing.  Current areas in Azeroth will be transformed, with heavy usage of the phasing technology used throughout quest chains to transform areas as you progress through the content in the world.

The following is a summary of the main points that have been announced so far:

- Two new races will be available, with the Goblins joining the Horde and the Worgen joining forces with the Alliance.
- New class and race combinations will be available, with a number of previously unavailable classes for certain races being available, e.g. troll druids and night elf mages are two examples.
- There will be 4 raiding instances, with the penultimate enemy of this expansion being Deathwing – the 4 raids will be Grim Batol, Skywall, The Firelands and Blackwing Descent
- Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms will be transformed through the destruction of Deathwing, with players now being able to use flying mounts in the old world areas!
- Some of the old world bosses will be available to fight once again, with Onyxia being revamped with a level 80 version (supposedly being available pre-Cataclysm), Nefarion from the original Blackwing Lair and Ragnaros from Molten Core back again (he brings back memories of chugging GFPPs madly)
- More things to grind level with the introduction of a new secondary profession (Archaeology) and guild based talent trees (e.g. cheaper repairs, raid wide rezzes/summons)
- Paid character race changes (who didn’t see that one coming)
- Simplifying of stats for various classes, so its clearer which class is after a particular item (e.g. warriors won’t want to "steal" rogue leather anymore)
- Re-working of talent trees (no extended talent trees for Cataclysm), make more "required" talents passive abilities and make talents more "fun" (wtf does that mean?)
- And most importantly, the level cap will only be raised to level 85 – so expect massive experience points being required per level

Community site MMO-Champion as always has quite a comprehensive write-up of all of the changes, so if you’re after a far more comprehensive list, go visit them here.

Of course in usual Blizzard style, there isn’t a release date attached to the game announcement, but my guess at this stage would be that it’ll definitely be sometime during the second half of next year at the earliest, with Starcraft 2 expected during the first half of the year, and Diablo 3 being pushed back until at least 2011.
