GTA4 DLC coming to PC?
Frozen Hell - Wednesday, November 11, 2009

A recent patch released for the PC version of GTA4 included several new achievements associated with the “Lost and the Damned” DLC that is currently exclusive to the Xbox 360 platform. There had previously been suggestions that the exclusivity status that Microsoft had secured for the DLC on the Xbox 360 was time limited, but this latest slip of information appears to reveal this to be the case.
Nothing official has been said by either Rockstar or Microsoft on the matter, but with the next DLC for GTA4 – The Ballad of Gay Tony – also being exclusive to the Xbox 360 when its released, that may be when the timer expires on the previous DLC and all platforms will receive it.
But until official word comes out, I guess we’ll just have to play the waiting game.

Bad Company 2 will have dedicated servers
Frozen Hell - Wednesday, November 11, 2009

In what is a very obvious response to Activision’s Modern Warfare 2 not supporting dedicated servers, EA have announced that the PC version of their upcoming title Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will indeed have multiplayer dedicated server support. EA’s Frank Gibeau made this clear by saying that “deep new online play with dedicated server support … will put Battlefield in head-to-head competition with Call of Duty for quality and online gameplay.”
So EA appear to not be watering down their support for multiplayer on the PC platform, at least not in the Battlefield franchise at least, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one develops.

EA: Medal of Honor making a come back
Frozen Hell - Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Electronic Arts have confirmed that they will be reviving the World War II themed Medal of Honor series in the near future. The last game came out in 2007 and seemed all but dead, but maybe they will be hoping to beef up the series to compete with Activision’s Call of Duty series. Call of Duty of course also started out as a World War II themed game, but has turned into a game set in more current day warfare environments, so it’ll be interesting to see if EA decide to follow this path as well.
There are no timeframes from EA on when a game is likely to materialise, but given they have also decided to lay off 1500 staff, it probably won’t be out anytime soon.

Team Versus added to Left4Dead (finally)
wob - Tuesday, November 10, 2009

I love Valve, but sometimes they really drop the ball. In the last 10 minutes an update to the original Left 4 Dead was released with a few bug fixes and.. wait for it.. TEAM VERSUS. Apparently Valve have included the ability for a team of 4 to find another team of 4 automatically without sitting in a lobby for 15 minutes kicking randoms and arguing. Something they’ve been promising from pretty much the day of release.
So this is fantastic right? Except we’re a week away from the release of Left 4 Dead 2. Too little too late guys. I’m going to go ahead assume we’re actually beta testing the Team VS matchmaking for Left 4 Dead 2 anyway. Look forward to lots of problems finding games this evening – it happens every time they mess with the matchmaking code.
Prove me wrong Valve… prove me wrong!

Rage, Rage, RAGE!
Frozen Hell - Monday, November 9, 2009

In news that really is disappointing, id Software have stated that they may not be supporting dedicated servers for their upcoming post-apocalyptic title Rage.
John Carmack has stated that “It’s not cast in stone yet, but at this point no, we don’t think we will have dedicated servers…”. That was followed up this comment that is particularly disturbing “The great thing is we won’t have to be a pioneer on that…”. With that comment appearing to be in reference to the recent decision by Infinity Ward to strip dedicated server support from their latest title in the Call of Duty franchise – Modern Warfare 2.
Is this the start of a nasty trend away from developers properly supporting gaming communities, and opting for the cheap multiplayer option of peer-to-peer gaming that gives the majority of gamers a poor gaming experience?
Thumbs down id, big thumbs down.
