Starcraft 2

There have been rumours going around for a little while now, but Blizzard Entertainment have finally officially announced that Starcraft 2 - the successor to the popular Real-Time Strategy game Starcraft - is in development.

The original Starcraft, released in 1998, and its expansion Brood Wars have sold more than 9 million copies worldwide, so any sequel has pretty big shoes to fill in the eyes of the gaming community.

Starcraft 2 will be set in the same universe as the original, with the 3 races of the Terran, Protoss and Zerg all featuring in the new installment. Blizzard promises that Starcraft 2 will deliver with the same fast, adrenaline packed action of the original, with all of the units available with the previous game also being included in the new game with a few additional tweaks as well as some new units never seen before in Starcraft.

There will be a comprehensive story-mode single player campaign for gamers to play through to hone their skills before battling it out on the new revamped Battle.Net system that will be introduced with Starcraft 2 for online multiplayer gameplay.

Blizzard currently haven't announced a release date for Starcraft 2, but have promised that it will be released as a worldwide release for both PC and Mac gamers simultaneously, with no console version planned at this point in time.
