Starhawk Open Beta Begins Feb 21

El_Funko - Tuesday, January 17, 2012

On Feb 21, anyone who wants to jump into Starhawk will get the chance when the open beta starts. You can get in earlier if you’re a PSN Plus subscriber or bought Uncharted 3.

Woohoo, free stuff! Everyone loves free stuff!

Starhawk is the sequel to Warhawk, one of the first multiplayer PS3 shooters, known for its gyro-controlled Warhawk jets and combining solid team-based FPS gameplay with vehicles to really make the player feel like he’s in the middle of an epic battle.

The sequel kicks things up a notch by adding the ability to deploy buildings, defensive turrets and energy shields on the fly in the middle of a game and adding the ability to transform the jets into a rad looking mech while singing Robot Rock (at least that’s what I’ll be doing). It’s the sort of ambitious design for an online shooter that makes me wonder whether it’s going to actually work well outside the controlled environment of the developer’s studio.

However the video below has a lot of resounding endorsements, so it sounds like the new stuff really works. It even includes a few people who don’t have to big the game up just because they write for Playstation Magazine, so it’s probably reliable.

Besides, the game just looks like it would be a lot of fun. Check it out.

3FL’s Dota 2 Beta Key Contest

El_Funko - Monday, November 21, 2011

It seems begging in the ticker at the top of our website has finally paid off. Yeah, that’s right. 3FL has Dota 2 beta keys to give away. How did we swing that, you ask? Valve and 3FL go way back, son. We’ve been Steam mirror buddies for years now.

All you have to do is send an email to contests@3fl.net.au from your iiNet, Westnet or Netspace email address and explain (in 25 words or less) who your favourite Dota hero is and why. Entries close Wednesday 3PM WST 23/11/2011. Limit of 1 entry per account.

The 3 most creative entries will win, so don’t just say “I love Sniper because I love to snipe!” That’s boring. Use your imagination and write a poem or a freestyle rap. Submit an image of your entry carved into a stone tablet. Blow our minds with your creativity and you’ll be pushing mid before the week is out.

The best part is each beta key comes with two additional copies of the Dota 2 beta which can be gifted to your mates through Steam!

Dota 2 Beta Survey Emails Incoming

El_Funko - Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Check your inbox and your junk folder because Valve has just fired off a bunch emails asking everyone to complete a survey for entry to the Dota 2 beta.

Today’s blog post explains that they’ve just finished expanding the Dota 2 beta servers ready to begin sending out a mass wave of invites later in the week, but first they need everyone to submit a hardware and general Dota survey. You actually don’t even need the email, just load the survey itself (if the link doesn’t work, try updating Steam) and away you go.

The post goes on to explain that Dota is always better enjoyed with friends, so everyone who receives an invite to the Dota 2 beta will also receive two extra invites to gift to their friends using Steam! Sounds like a whole bunch of people are going to be pushing mid very soon.

Battlefield 3 Beta Ends

El_Funko - Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and the BF3 open beta is now closed. I’d ask for a moments silence, but it would be spoiled by all the sobbing, sniffling and swearing I’ve been doing since 6PM last night.

We’re now in that magical time of finding something to do until the game is released later this month on the 27th. Luckily the combined power of new multiplayer maps and user uploaded Youtube videos are here to save the day.

After the jump you’ll find over 20 minutes of footage from two new multiplayer maps, some excellent jet dogfighting from the beta, an insane 921m sniper shot and the best use of Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone in a BF3 video yet.

JokerZ - Monday, October 10, 2011

So you can’t wait for Diablo 3? Neither can I, but there’s always alternatives to hitting refresh on your inbox every 5 seconds and hoping for a Diablo 3 beta invite. One such alternative is Path of Exile, an action RPG developed by New Zealand based Grinding Gears Games. The game is currently in the closed beta phase of development and keys aren’t easy to come by, but 3FL has been given 5 beta keys to give away to our lucky readers!

Read on for my impressions of the game so far and to find out how to win a key!

The other day Valve released the beta version of “Cold Stream” for testing to Left 4 Dead 2 owners. Cold Stream is part of an upcoming DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 which will be available for PC, Mac and Xbox360.
