Free-To-Play Ghost Recon Online

Ubisoft have announced the development of a new online multi-player Third-Person Shooter called “Ghost Recon Online” and will be based off of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon.

The Game will be available sometime in the second half of 2011, and will be free-to-play with the game supporting micro-transactions, which will give players the ability to purchase items from a in-game store to personalize their experience in game.

There will also be a closed beta in which you can apply to be a part of by registering on the official website.

Ubisoft Week – Day 1: Prince of Persia

Ubisoft and Steam are kicking off the Ubisoft Week with Prince of Persia being the first game offered on sale.

The Prince of Persia Complete Pack is currently on sale for $15.00 USD (Down from $59.99 USD) and contains Prince of Persia, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

Alternatively if you already own a few of these games and want to pick up the ones you are missing they are also individually on sale:

New Assassin’s Creed Title Coming In 2011

Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, revealed that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be out in calendar 2011, and will be revealed at some point in May, ahead of this year’s E3 Expo.

Ubisoft also mentioned that the latest in the Assassin’s Creed titles “Brotherhood”, which was released last November, has shipped 6.5 million copies worldwide since its release date.

In total Ubisoft have created six Assassin’s Creed titles to date, Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood made appearances on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC, whilst Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles, Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines, and Assassin’s Creed: Discovery made appearences on Nintendo DS, iOS, Playstation Portable, WebOs and Android.

Ubisoft requiring active net connection to play

We’re talking single player games here. Assassins Creed 2 (PC) being the big one. This article over at computerandvideogames.com (what a domain..) informs us the rumours are true – Ubi’s newest DRM solution will require an active internet connection to play their games. If you lose your internet for a second, your router reboots, your telephone line is abducted by Elvis, then the game will kick you out and you’ll lose any unsaved data.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. I’m usually all about the multiplayer gaming, but what do I do if I can’t get online for some reason (not because iiNet is broken, some other reason.. maybe Elvis again). Go outside? No dammit, I bust out the single player games.

Hopefully there’ll be sufficient public backlash to make them re-think this.. hopefully.

Farcry 3 in the works

The second game in the series was set in war torn Africa, with you working as a mercenary for hire trying to track down the elusive master mind of the warring groups. For me I never could get far enough into the game to get any level of real satisfaction out of it, as it seemed to be a lot of driving around and repeating the same thing over and over (that said I probably only got 3-4 hours into it – maybe it got better?). But aside from any debates over the gameplay, the game was quite graphically pleasing and is regularly used for benchmark comparisons between various hardware.

But getting back to Farcry 3, there really isn’t any info on when it will be available or even what theme it will have, whether you’ll be back to Africa, or slugging it out in some tropical rainforest/island environment like in the first game. But one thing is probably a guarantee, and that is that the game will be very graphically pleasing and will bring today’s high end computers to their knees more than likely.
