Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 2 is a First Person Shooter (FPS) video game that was released in October 2005. The game was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.
The game includes a single player campaign mode and a multiplayer mode with new maps being made available with game patches. The multiplayer modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Headquarters and Search and Destroy. These will be explained in depth below.
Single Player
Call of Duty 2 is similar to the first iteration of the Call of Duty franchise. It takes the view of 3 different soldiers. They are a Russian Private Vasili Koslov of the Red Army, British Sergeant Davis of Seventh Armoured Division and American Corporal Taylor of the 2nd Ranger Battalion.
Throughout the missions the character is accompanied by computer controlled allies who will lay down covering fire, dragging wounded comrades to safety and contribute helpful dialogue throughout the game. This gives the game a team based feel without the hassle of commanding the other characters directions or orders.
The Russian campaign begins with Private Koslov taking a tutorial mission during the battle of Moscow. The following missions take place on the streets of Stalingrad with house to house fighting with the enemy to take control. They then move on to a train yard and City Hall where you must hold the attacking forces at bay.
The British campaign begins with Sergeant Davis in El-Alamein making his way to Tunisia whilst taking over facilities, buildings and towns. There are also multiple levels in the game which take place as a commanding tank officer attacking the Germans through Libya.
The American campaign begins with Corporal Taylor playing a part in D-Day at the assault of Pointe Du Hoc which was located four miles west of Omaha Beach. The player must charge the beach before having to climb ropes up a cliff to sabotage artillery aimed at Utah Beach and Omaha Beach. The remainder of the campaign sees the player taking part in the brutal fighting in Normandy and on Hill 400 under fire of German machine gun bunkers, artillery and Tiger Tanks.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer mode of this game is comparable to other FPS video games out with various modes and maps and the ability to have up to 32 players online playing on one server.
Deathmatch
In Deathmatch, players verse each other in a free for all with a designated time limit. The game ends at the end of the specified time limit. At the end of the game the winner is the person with the most points (kills or frags). Players can select either Axis or Allies and select any available weapon.
Team Deathmatch
In Team Deathmatch, players are divided into two teams and verse each other with a designated time limit. The game ends at the end of the specified time limit. At the end of the game the winner is the team with the most points (kills or frags).
A feature of Call of Duty Team Deathmatch is that the entry after death (spawn) changes depending on the location of fellow teammates compared to regular FPS games that generally use a rally point system. This makes the possibility to drive the enemy out of a position and have teammates begin to spawn there at the same time the enemy will begin to spawn in a different place.
Capture the Flag
In Capture the Flag, two teams spawn on the map opposite of each other. Each team has a home flag that they must defend, while supplying enough offense to capture the enemy flag and bring it back to where their home flag is to "capture it." You can return your home flag by killing an enemy and running over it. Likewise, you can continue the extraction of the enemy flag by picking it up where your teammate left off. Weapons can still be fired from the flag carrier. The best part about CTF is that the mobile spawn idea comes into effect. You'll spawn with a majority of your teammates.
Headquarters
In Headquarters, both teams must capture their HQ at the neutral point. The defending team must hold out at their HQ for the longest amount of time. On the defending team you cannot respawn if you die whilst the attacking team can respawn. The idea is to survive the longest without giving up the HQ. The attacking/defending team rotation alternates and the same procedure occurs.
Search & Destroy
In Search & Destroy, players split into attacking and defending teams. Players who are killed will not respawn until the following round. A round ends when all the players of one team have been eliminated or an objective has been completed. The winning team will receive a point and totaled up at the end to determine the winner if played over multiple rounds.
The objective for the attackers is to plant a time bomb on a compass directed target. The bomb starts its countdown once planted next to the target. The defenders must protect the object either by keeping the bomb from being planted or defusing it while it is counting down. All maps have two separate objects which can be attacked although only one bomb may be planted.
Starter Guide
Call of Duty 2 is a FPS that takes place during WWII. The character played will be an infantryman starting with a pistol and will progress through the game picking up advanced weapons in the forms of machine guns, rifles and bazookas. The game is linear in the fact that once an objective is completed it is advised of the next objective by your squad leader and you progress through with your squad. There is no confusion of where to go next or what to do next.
In multiplayer, the game plays the same way as single player. Depending on what game mode you play there will be certain objectives that must be completed to win the game. This is best done by coordinating with your team as it will be team based. If you’re not a fan of team based modes then deathmatch will be for you which will just be an all out firefight with everyone.

Player's Guide
Team Squad
To survive in Call of Duty 2 you will need to take advantage of your squad. They will help you fight the enemy by providing covering fire and helping you progress through the levels. Follow the squad leader and listen to his instructions as they will progress the missions and help you when needed.
Cover
Call of Duty 2 is not a spray and pray game and playing it like so will not get you far in the game especially on the harder difficulties. Use cover to your advantage as it is very important to staying alive. By using the lean commands you will be able to see around walls, doors, windows and any other obstacle you may come across. This will be very handy for your progression throughout the game.
Stance
Call of Duty 2 gives you the chance of crouching and lying prone on the ground. Take advantage of these stances throughout the game as they are given for a reason. Don't just rely on standing tall as you'll be easy to shoot down.
Be Mobile
Move Move Move. Never stay situated in one location whether it be to reload, regroup or getting your health replenished. Staying in one location will make you vulnerable to enemies who may discover your location. Especially if you start hearing artillery/mortar firing off in the background.
Be Thorough
When clearing buildings make sure you search every room and floor level. Enemies will lie in wait for the prime opportunities for a mistake so don’t let your guard down as the last thing you'll want is to be killed from behind.
Reloading
Every time you have a firefight your ammo clip will reduce. Don’t wait for the clip to run out before it auto reloads. Manually reload the weapon every time after you have a firefight as you do not want to go into one with 3 bullets left and wasting time reloading whilst the enemy has a perfect opportunity to take vengeance.
