Reporting Cheaters or Abusive Players

Reporting on 3FL

As 3FL cannot have admins playing on the servers at all hours of the day, it relies on the other gamers to record and report cheating and abusive players to the admin team. They can do this through either:

  • Connecting to IRC and reporting the game and server to one of the admins in the main channel. If an admin for that game is available to assist, they will be able to connect to the game and observe the offending players behaviour and warn/ban if necessary. For further information on connecting to IRC, click this link: 3FL IRC
  • Recording a demo or taking a screenshot of the offending players actions and submitting it for review to the admin team.

Questioning a Ban

If you require more information on your ban, or wish to appeal the ban, please send an email to the head admin of the game in question with as much information as possible. The admins for each game can be found here. Alternatively, you can send the email to support@3fl.net.au to be forwarded to the correct admin. Please do NOT create a thread on the forums, as this will only be closed/deleted and will not get you anywhere. Please include the following information in your email:

  • Game (CS:S, Call of Duty, Battlefield 2 etc.)
  • Server (and state)
  • Date and time
  • Your SteamID/Unique ID/GUID (please do not send your CD Key, as this is not helpful. You should never give out your CD Key to anyone)

Recording a Demo

If you suspect some one is cheating and when spectating their player, supports your reservations, recording a demo allows a potential admin to see their suspicious behaviour. Each game is different, and will have it's own procedure to record an in-game demo. Once you have the demo recorded, please submit the file to support@3fl.net.au.

Recording a Demo in Counter-Strike: Source

If you suspect someone of cheating and are viewing them in first person mode (from either spectator view or whilst you are dead), open up console by pushing your ` key located next to "1" and type in console "record (demo name)". You can choose to name the demo whatever you like, however it is generally best to name them similar to the name of the suspected player to make it easier to locate once you are done recording

It should then come up saying “Recording to demoname.dem...” to confirm the recording has started. It is best to generally remain quiet while you are recording as to not giveaway to the suspect what you are doing. If you are not getting enough time to get some decent evidence while you are dead then enter into spectator so that you can watch them for a longer period of time.

While you are recording, it is ESSENTIAL that you type “status” into the console, to bring up a list of the people playing in the server and also their “SteamID”, which is the unique code that an account is linked to that can allow administrators to permanently ban that ID from playing on the server. Typing “status” in the demo will record this information into the demo which can be retrieved by the admin reviewing the demo; if you don’t manage to do this then at least write the SteamID down and send that in or copy and paste it into the email. Steam ID’s will look something along the lines of STEAM_0:1:12345.
