Getting Started Guide

This page is to serve as a basic guide for those who are new to the online gaming experience.

Online Gaming Requirements

There are 3 main components to online gaming.

An Internet connection

While it is possible to play online games on a dial up connection, as broadband Internet has grown immensely in popularity over the last couple of years, many consider ADSL or equivalent - a standard.

Comparatively, ADSL can be several (depending on your subscribed speed) times faster than a dial up connection. Having a "faster" connection will not only allow you to send and receive data quicker, but will also improve your in game ping. A ping is a measurement in time (ms/milliseconds) taken to send a small packet of data from your computer to it's destination and back. The lower your ping, the better, as it allow you to react quicker to what's happening in game.

Copy of the Game

In order to play any game online, it generally requires you to have a legitimate copy of the game you wish to play online - installed on your computer. Many games will not allow the same CD-Key online more than once, so it's important that you have your own copy of the game in question. Here are some of the games currently offered on 3FL's servers.

A Computer

Without a computer, what will you use to show your domination and deal the humiliation of your long awaited foes - Harsh Language? Every game is different in regards to graphical performance and specifications demands. The newer the game, generally the higher the requirements. We've attempted to add minimum PC requirements for each game offered on 3FL's servers, however keep in mind this is only a guide.

Connecting to the Game

OK, so you have all the above sorted and working, naturally you're going to ask what now? Well each game is different, and requires you to have the original copy of the game. With that in mind, each game has it's own multiplayer option which will gather all the servers available, while many are local - there are also several that are international. Depending on the game-type, international servers are usually not desirable because of the inevitably high ping. Each server listing will describe the map name, game mode, amount of players currently connected to that server and the ping or latency. Most games allow the ability to sort by name or search the listed servers by name. Double click on the server you want to connect to, and get ready to battle it out!

Connecting to 3FL's game servers

As you maybe aware, 3FL has it's own collection of game servers. In 3FL's Server Spy this will allow you to see a grouping of the servers offered, with the relevant information (map/players/etc) - below each of the listings will show you the server address, many mutiplayer games allow you to search or even manually type in the address of a server. Simply copy or write down the server address as given in the Server Spy, then enter it into the game console (if available) or the manual connect option.
